If you want to consider some training in a sunnier climate then Calpe is worth looking at. Calpe is a few miles north of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca and has the advantage of year round flights from Scotland direct to Alicante. Even during winter the days can be dry and bright although can be just as cold as Scotland if you cycle up into the mountains so be careful.
Calpe is a reasonable size town and is a good base for cyclists. Bear in mind though you are at sea level so every ride out of the town makes a challenging start to the day.
There are lots of routes to explore and some great climbs up into the mountains. It isn’t as varied as Majorca so the riding probably suits people with experience of riding up hills and just as importantly descending off them. The road surfaces are near perfect most of the time and on some of the busier roads there is a cycle lane which is about 2m wide so pretty safe. The further inland you go the quieter it gets to the point that it can get very remote and sometimes difficult to find anywhere open in the afternoons.
There is a small local bike shop in Calpe where you can hire good quality road bikes called http://www.solybike.com/index_en.html
Calpe has lots of hotels to suit all tastes and budgets and eating out is inexpensive.
If you are looking for a change of cycle venue then it is worth considering.
