Stirling Triathlon Club was formed in the late 1980's by a group of like minded people who were interested in training and competing in the developing sport of triathlon in Scotland. Some of the original members are still active in the club today and have been heartened by the growth and development of the club over the years into one of the biggest triathlon clubs in Scotland. Since the club was formed many of the members have used their training to take part in a wide range of endurance sports. Some of these events include the Marathon de Sables, Lands End to John O'Groats cycle and the Nokia Coast to Coast Challenge. Members have also had considerable success in various events and many have gone on to represent Great Britain at Age Group Level. However the emphasis is on all members enjoying the services of the club and enjoying the sport of triathlon.
The club is proud of its inclusive attitude to membership and this is shown in the breakdown of its members which for 2011 was represented by having 214 senior and 89 junior members (~57% male members and ~43% female members). Membership has grown steadily over the last few years and we now have over 300 members. Stirling Triathlon has worked with many of the worlds top triathlete's who have started their triathlon careers within the club. Stirling Triathlon welcomes members from all parts of the community and has Active Stirling Club Charter status.
There are various club training sessions held during the course of the week and these vary depending on the seasons. As well as having sessions for each of the disciplines within triathlon there are different groups for the level of intensity people want to train at. This means that there are sessions for all members no matter what their fitness levels are or what goals they want to achieve.
As well as arranging training sessions the club also puts great emphasis on members having fun and enjoyment whilst being a member. Various social events are arranged throughout the year and when members travel to compete in events they often go with other members to help to calm nerves and to get motivation to perform at the very highest level.
The club also organises several triathlon races during the year including The Stirling Try-a-Tri Race, The Stirling Duathlon and The Stirling Aquathlon .The club is proud that these are now the biggest triathlon events to be held in Scotland and this is down to the hard work that goes on at Stirling Triathlon Club by both the committee and the membership.
